Cooking
If you’re no newcomer to the Harvest Moon series, you already know that cooking is an essential part of Magical Melody, as well as any other Harvest Moon game. Not only does it help maintain and balance your stamina, it also leads to bigger cash profits. For example a, Boiled Egg sells for 140G, versus a Regular Egg, which sells for 50G; Apple Soda happens to sell for no less than 740G! As you can see, cooking as a whole and understanding it is one of the best investments a young farmer can make.
Well, before you can start cooking, you will need a kitchen and at least one utensil. A fridge would be nice too!
Kitchens
The kitchens can be bought from Woody at the Workshop (See the Extensions page for more info). Only the XS and S size kitchens will initially be available, but after you upgrade to a level 3 house, you can buy the M and L sizes. The XL size kitchens will become available once you’ve upgraded to a Level 4 house.
Below is a table of the different kitchens you can get and how much it’ll cost you.

Utensils
All of the utensils can be bought at the junk shop, except for the mixing pot and aging pot. These two items can be obtained from Saibara after he moves into town. Also keep in mind that the butter, cheese, and mayonnaise makers can be bought from the junk shop. These three items are very useful, considering butter, cheese, and mayonnaise are used in a number of dishes.
Below is a list of the different utensils and their cost, as well as an explanation of how to get them.

How to Cook
Before cooking, make sure that you have all of the items that you want to use in your rucksack. You will also need to use one of the utensils listed above, depending on what the recipe calls for.
First, make sure that the utensil you need has been placed on one of the open spots on your kitchen set. To arrange which utensils are on the kitchen, use your diary and choose the “furniture?? option. Once you have placed the kitchen somewhere in your house, you can then place cooking utensils on its available spaces. Keep in mind that the size of your kitchen determines how many spaces you will have available for utensils:
- Kitchen (XS): 2 spaces
- Kitchen (S): 3 spaces
- Kitchen (M): 4 spaces
- Kitchen (L): 6 spaces
- Kitchen (XL): 8 spaces
Now the fun part! Walk up to the utensil/appliance that you will be using and press the A button. Six open slots pop up, and in each, you can place one item. Simply rotate through the items in your rucksack using the c-stick and pick out the ones that you want to use. And just to clarify, if you want to use a certain item more than once in one recipe (assuming you have more than one of that item), you would just place the item in multiple slots, instead of having all of one item fit into one space.
Once you’ve selected your ingredients, move the cursor over to the ‘start’ button and press A. If you’ve followed the recipe correctly, an exclamation mark will appear over your head. If not, three dots will appear over your head and you will produce a ‘weird dish’.

Fish Recipes
Okay, here are all the recipes exclusively concerning fish. Because there are so many fish, and the same dish could sell for a different price depending on which fish you use, it’s easier to just put them all in their own section like this.
To find out more about what kind of fish there are, how to catch them, etc., see our Fishing section.
